Why has this idea faded away? Councillor Phil Squire is the only one on-board. Barely anyone has heard of it. What next? How do you suppose we even get free transit when city council just approved a 18% increase, with NO public input, just like magic, voted & approved!!
Somewhere I read there are 14 cities in North America with free transit. How do we actually make it happen??? Not on paper – in real life!!Contact the LTRA

1)why can’t we go further back in time on this site on the comments? There were a lot of good real-life comments & ideas.
2)Look at it this way: produce/fruits/veg have increased 18% & so will the cost of ltc. Which will you choose? As another wrote, it costs to get to the food bank & yes, that 9.50 for 5 tickets is a lot. London is suffering all around for jobs, poverty, rents, basic cost of living.
3)city hall & ltc employees need to give up their cars & take transit for 1 month test. LTC has made a great deal of improvements in the last 2-3 years vs the past 30 yrs of doing nothing. Use it!!
4) city council & ltc was given 400 million for transit & sat & talked in circles about it for 3 years. Could have used it to lower the rates already. Even a nominal $2.00 or $5.00 pass would work. You have to scan your card in order to track the ridership. In 2020, we will make London, Ontario the first Fare Free Transit city in Canada.
Fare Free Transit is a growing worldwide movement to eliminate user fees for public transit in order to combat the climate crisis, address affordability and mobility challenges, increase urban intensification and quality of life, and reduce congestion and the need for expensive and never ending road construction. For decades, London has significantly underfunded our public transit system. Now, it is time for London to lead.
We, the undersigned, call on our City Council, London Transit Commission, and other stakeholders, to work with us to make London, Ontario the first Fare Free Transit city in Canada.
